This emblem has a story to it.
What had been known and accepted as a single muscle sheath since Vesalius’ first report more than 400 years back in medical history (1555) turned out to be a triple loop system when Prof. Ahmed Shafik came across it in his search of new alternative in urinary diversion.
Hence, together with the puborectalis muscle, the top, intermediate and base loop form the anal sphincteric system, with each of its components having the ability of doing the job alone if need be.
